Kenyan authorities have destroyed 1,036.044 kilograms of methamphetamine valued at approximately Ksh8.2 billion at Bamburi Cement in Mombasa, bringing to an end the court-supervised disposal of one of the country’s largest narcotics seizures.
The drugs were destroyed on Thursday, September 24, 2026, nearly a year after they were intercepted in the Indian Ocean during a multi-agency maritime operation in October 2025.

Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin, senior National Police Service officials and representatives of other agencies were also present during the exercise. The consignment had been secured as an exhibit in a narcotics trafficking case before the Shanzu Law Courts, where six Iranian nationals are facing charges linked to the shipment.
How the Ksh8.2 billion methamphetamine was seized The methamphetamine was intercepted in October 2025 after Kenyan security agencies stopped a stateless dhow in the Indian Ocean off the Kenyan coast. The DCI said the operation involved multiple agencies and led to the arrest of six Iranian nationals who were allegedly aboard the vessel. The suspects were subsequently charged in connection with trafficking the narcotics.
The case has since proceeded before the Shanzu Law Courts, with the prosecution presenting evidence concerning the seizure and the alleged trafficking operation. The accused are charged under Section 4(a)(ii) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, according to court reports.
